DIY Hot Oil Wraps

Between summer heat and insomnia, I am in a constant struggle to fight dry skin on my face. While heading to a spa for a facial is a nice thought, a quick and easy treatment at home can be just as effective and relaxing.

AND it fits in my schedule.

These hot oil wraps can be made with just a few ingredients. We want to build 3 layers on the face – oil, moisture and heat. I am already feeling relaxed…

Easy hot oil wraps ->
-Massage a good amount of non-comedogenic oil on your clean face. Use enough so that you have a thin layer of oil on your skin.
I’m using our Conditioning Oil since it has castor oil which will help clean pores too, plus nourishing oils to heal and condition. You can add a pinch of cinnamon to stimulate circulation.

– Soak a clean towel, t-shirt or (my favorite) a white undershirt in warm water. I like these undershirts because they are light, breathable…and somehow I always seem to have one. This will be your moisture layer. Don’t get the water hotter than is comfortable on your skin.
– Heat grains (rice, lentils, buckwheat -whatever you have) in the microwave or in a saute pan and place in a bag. Not blistering hot, but warm enough for comfort. This is a great way to reuse our Simplecare burlap bags, or a gallon sized plastic bag works as well.
-Place the wet layer over your oiled face and lay the heat source on top. Relax for 10 minutes or so, until cooled.
-Gently wipe face with hot, wet towel to remove excess oil.
-Rinse and repeat if desired.
-Shine bright like a diamond.

How to Use Argan Oil

Argan oil, “liquid gold”, comes from the argan nut found only in Morocco.
One of the special things about this oil is that it is hand-harvested by women who work in cooperatives that provide fair wages in a safe environment, and opportunities for working mothers.  This is a unique opportunity to support an economy where women would not have opportunity to provide for their families.
On top of that, Argan oil is ridiculously nutritious! It is high in antioxidants, essential fatty acids and vitamins. It is also great for use all by itself just about everywhere on the body. Listed below are 4 easy ways to use Moroccan Argan Oil.

Argan oil is a very light oil that absorbs well and does not leave a lingering greasy feel. It is a moisturizing and nourishing oil, great for areas with sensitive skin like the face or dermatitis. It is a great oil to use all by itself in many different ways:
-Use it as an overnight hair conditioner, just wash it out in the morning.
– Wet hands and rub a dab of Argan OIl through clean (wet or dry ) hair ends to add moisture and shine.
– Mix it with some agave and/or honey for a quick and easy mask.
– Use Argan Oil as a light facial moisturizer or on problem areas of the body. It’s great for stretch marks!
– Add some directly to your bath and soak. Of course, you can add argan oil to any Simplecare Fresh Mask Mix and it’s already in some of our products like our Conditioning Body Oil and Body Paste.
(always check ingredients, as store-bought premium oils are often cut with a carrier oil).
